5 Millionth HomePNA 3 Chipset Ships for IPTV Service Deployment

Milestone achievement shows demand for the only multimedia home networking standard over coaxial cables and phone wires

San Ramon, CA - May 8, 2008

HomePNA, the leading standard for IPTV over coax and phone wires, announced today that 5 million HomePNA 3.1 chipsets have now shipped, up from 2 million less than six months ago. The shipments demonstrate the high demand for HomePNA multimedia home networking devices in IPTV service deployments.

HomePNA is being deployed by dozens of telephone companies worldwide including AT&T, Aliant in Canada, and Sonaecom in Portugal. With almost 30 certified products, HomePNA offers service providers more certified products that operate over coaxial cable than any other standard.

"These chipset orders show the strong enthusiasm for the well-adopted home networking standard. Featuring a data rate of 320 megabits per second, HomePNA delivers the highest speed available and guaranteed quality of service needed to distribute high-definition IPTV and other IP-based services," said Rich Nesin, president of HomePNA. "Millions of chipsets have been shipped in certified products including IP set-top boxes, residential gateways, bridges, ONTs and test equipment for IPTV deployments."

HomePNA 3.1 is the only home networking standard supported by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the group currently developing the G.hn gigabit all-wire home networking standard. It is also one of the local area network (LAN) interfaces included in the DSL Forum's TR-069 family of Broadband Home global recommendations.

Manufacturers offer HomePNA chipsets integrated in home networking equipment, enabling service providers to deliver reliable triple-play multimedia networking service inside customers' homes. The technology helps service providers to reduce installation costs, utilize remote management and diagnostics to reduce operational expenses, and even reduce end-user costs through unified billing.
